Multidetector Computed Tomographic Characterization of a Left Atrial Myxoma

چکیده
A 57-year-old woman presented to her local hospital with left arm and leg weakness and was diagnosed with a right-sided stroke. A subsequent transthoracic echocardiogram showed a large, poorly-defined mass within the left atrium, which prompted her transfer to our institute for urgent surgical resection. As a prelude to surgery, we performed a " tripartite " coronary CT angiogram to assess the coronary anatomy and left atrial mass (Figure 1). The findings were consistent with a left atrial myxoma and the patient subsequently underwent surgery, where the mass was resected and the diagnosis substantiated (Figure 2). Myxomas have an estimated incidence of 0.007%. Although echocardiography remains the first-line investigation to establish their diagnosis, the current case highlights the typical appearances and usefulness of CT as a second-line investigation when further information is required. Biatrial myxoma and atrial septal defect.
Myxomas are rarely associated with congenital cardiac anomalies. We report a case of a young female presenting with symptoms of atrial myxoma but having co-existing ASD visualized on 64 slice multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) prior to cardiac surgery. Patient had a successful resection of biatrial myxoma and ASD repair. This case is unique as the myxoma originated from the inferior margi...

Atrial myxomas are uncommon in the pediatric population but are very important due to pursuant atrioventricular valve obstruction and systemic embolic events. Concerning multiple symptoms ranging from congestive heart failure to neurological deficits, the diagnosis of this disease is complicated. This paper reports a case of left atrium myxoma in a child treated with a surgical excision o...

متن کاملPreoperative Emboli in a Pregnant Woman with Myxoma
The left atrium is the most common location of myxomas, which are benign tumors. Only a few cases of myxomas in pregnancies have been reported. Our thorough medical literature search showed only 17 reported cases in the course of pregnancy. Myxomas during pregnancy and in the preterm period constitute a serious phenomenon that can mimic an early sign of a life-threatening pathology like severe ...

OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to assess, in a general cardiology cohort screened for obstructive coronary artery disease (CAD), the effectiveness and frequency with which multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) angiography unexpectedly imaged and identified other nonatherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases. BACKGROUND MDCT angiography is a novel imaging strategy employed primarily to d...
